Grammy Nominations 2022: African Grammy Nominees To Watch Out For

As the Oscars are to Movie Stars,so is the Grammy to Musicians ,The Grammy is an award presented by the Recording Academy to recognize achievement in the music industry Globally. Here are the five African Nominees to watch out for 64th GRAMMY Awards, taking place on January 31st, 2022 .

1. Wizkid
    Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun born on 16 July 1990, known professionally as Wizkid is a Nigerian singer and songwriter.He was nominated for Best Music Video Brown Skin Girl. He was nominated for the 59th Annual GRAMMY Awards 2016 Album of the Year as a featured artist,He Was Nominated in 2021 for Best Music Video “Brown Skin Girl” Beyoncé featuring Wizkid & Saint Jhn which he won.He is currently nominated for the 2022  Grammy for the Best Global Music Album ”Made in Lagos” Deluxe Edition and Best Global Music Performance “Essence”featuring Tems.

2. Femi Kuti
Olufela Olufemi Anikulapo Kuti, popularly known as Femi Kuti, is a Nigerian musician born in London and raised in Lagos. He is the eldest son of Afrobeat Legend Fela Kuti, Femi is the Leader of a Band named ”Positive Force” and a Saxophonist ,Femi has been nominated four times (in 2002, 2009, 2011, and 2013) for a Grammy Award in the Best World Music Album category.For the 2022 Grammy Awards, Femi and his son Made were nominated for Best Global Music Album and Femi was nominated for Best Global Music Performance.

3. Anglique Kidjo
  Angélique Kpasseloko Kidjo, is a Beninese singer-songwriter, actress, and activist who is noted for her diverse musical influences and creative music videos. Angelique has had 9 Nominations and She is a 4 Times Grammy award winner and has 13 Music Albums to her Name .She is Currently nominated for Best Global Music Album Award .

4.Made Kuti
     Omorinmade Kuti known professionally as Made Kuti, is a Nigerian afrobeat singer, songwriter and instrumentalist. He is Grandson of Fela Kuti and the Son of Femi Kuti

  5. Tems
        Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage name Tems, is a Nigerian singer. In 2021, she earned two US top 40 entries on the Billboard Hot 100,

6. Burna Boy
    Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, known professionally as Burna Boy, is a Nigerian singer, rapper and songwriter. He is one of the biggest and most successful African artists. He rose to prominence in 2012 after releasing “Like to Party”

7. Rocky Dawuni
   Rocky Dawuni is a Ghanaian singer, songwriter and record producer who performs his signature ‘Afro Roots’ sound which is a mixture of Reggae, Afrobeat, Highlife and Soul music.The Ghanaian Reggae star Rocky Dawuni with his album Voice of Bunbon’ Vol.1 is Nominated for the Best Global Music Album.

8.Black Coffee
   Nkosinathi Innocent Sizwe Maphumulo, better known by his stage name Black Coffee, is a South African DJ, record producer and songwriter. He is Currently Nominated for the Best Dance/Electronic Album
